EHS & Training Officer

Location: West Yorkshire, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Heckmondwike

Salary: £30-36k Circa

The Client: Leading 1st tier supplier in the automotive sector


The EHS & Training Officer is identified as the Health & Safety Competent representative for the site


  • To assist in promoting a high level of awareness and compliance in all aspects of health, safety and environmental management in relation to the day to day operations of the plant
  • Promote the 15 Principles for Good Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Behaviour supporting appropriate training of employees as required
  • Participate in daily Zone Board meetings giving support and advice as required
  • Co-ordinate, conduct, train and assist others with site risk assessments ensuring they are conducted and reviewed in a timely manner and to a high standard
  • Assist in the development of site safe systems of work
  • Awareness of accident and incidents : support investigations and close out of actions as required promoting the identification of areas for improvement
  • Ensure EHS audit plan is adhered to.  Validate EHS standards following Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) covering measurement of safe conditions and safe acts whilst ensuring legal compliance
  • Participate as required in ISO 14001 Audits and support waste/energy reduction projects as required
  • Participate in all activities in relation to the achievement and maintenance of OHSAS 18001
  • As required advise on the categorisation of waste, waste hierarchy and disposal within appropriate legal requirements
  • Support as required the maintenance of the COSHH Register ensuring all COSHH assessments are completed for new items coming on site and review existing ones
  • Ensure that all EHS requirements for the Production System Audits are in place and maintained up to date
  • Conduct noise surveys and audits of contractors on site
  • Attend EHS Meetings and support as appropriate
  • Provide EHS advice and guidance to the Ops Team and all employees as appropriate
  • Develop new initiatives to improve EHS on site
  • Support  if required on New Product Introduction
  • Support the development of a site wide new starter induction programme
  • Carry out EHS Induction for New Starters and other EHS training as required
  • Support the development and role out of Group EHS training
  • Develop a fundamental skills training facility on site and conduct training as required
  • Support programme of the development of fundamental transferable skills
  • Ensure that basic EHS training is refreshed every 2 years
  • Adopt and support the company Values and Principles

Required qualifications:

  • NEBOSH general certificate (diploma preferred)
  • IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management Associate)
  • Qualified Internal Auditor ISO 14001 (OHSAS18001 advantageous) Lead Auditor Advantageous
