Electrical Development Engineer

Salary: 35k

Location: Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicester, Leicestershire, Loughborough, Burton upon Trent

The Client:

My client is a world-leading manufacturer and supplier of workshop equipment, in-vehicle equipment and workplace systems. 

The Role:

To support the Sales, Engineering & Production teams by designing, testing, and implementing electrical solutions, in line with client requirements regulatory standards.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Design wiring looms & cable preparation kits in line with design and production schedules, keeping the loom schedule up to date and maintained
  • Check drawings before issuing them as finished looms
  • Liaise with loom suppliers for specification & pricing
  • Test new products / solutions and record all relevant data to support decision making. Report findings by written or verbal means as required
  • Collate & hold data in support of all testing carried out
  • Provide supporting information following prototype installations
  • Source potential new products for future builds, meeting with suppliers as necessary. Understand new technology and how our conversions can benefit
  • Work with Sales and Design departments to fully understand customer’s requirements & develop solutions to fit customer needs. Attend customer meetings when required
  • Assist with programming and/or commissioning of components and systems
  • Ensure Type Approval and vehicle manufacturer requirements are met at all times
  • Champion consistency and standardisation across all conversion specifications
  • Continuously monitor the effectiveness of any action taken
  • Conduct additional technical research projects or other tasks as directed
  • Assist with electrical installations when required

Required Attributes:

  • Experience of integration of electrical components and systems into vehicles
  • Experience of CAD packages, particularly electrical design
  • Knowledge of Light Commercial Vehicles
  • Formal electrical training or qualifications
  • Knowledge of PCB design & programming desirable
  • Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and a high level of numeracy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong team working skills
  • Flexibility and an ability to compromise
  • A willingness to accept responsibility and make decisions
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent customer care skills and good commercial awareness
