Role: Lead Technical Architect 
Contracting Authority: DfT DVLA 
Contract Length: 6 months contract
Location: Swansea
IR35: IN SCOPE 
Pay Rate to Candidate: £800 a day IN SCOPE of ir35 
Minimum Requirement: 
• Create robust and supportable IT solutions to meet the Agency’s business requirements
• Responsible for end-to-end Solution Designs, both High Level and Low Level with the aim to deliver cost effective and supportable systems. As part of this process addressing any technical shortcomings that could impact services through engagement with technical and business areas.
• Solution and Technical Ownership, providing review and assurance where required 6 Creating and presenting High Level Solution Proposals to senior stakeholders

Job Purpose/Role Description

This role is for a Lead Technical Architect who will work as part of IT Service Creation to design and deliver high quality solutions that meet Business Requirements and help drive the Agency to become a leader in Digital Services. The role requires excellent technical and leadership skills and strong presentation and communications skills commensurate with being accountable for all technical aspects of delivering complex solutions, including  end-to-end solution design, delivery governance, assurance and support for  Engineers and Delivery Managers.
 

Main Responsibilities: (Work Activities)

  • Create robust and supportable IT solutions to meet the Agency’s business requirements
  • Provide Technical Consultancy, Technical Leadership and practical expertise to support, project and business areas across the Agency or department as and when required.
  • Responsible for end-to-end Solution Designs, both High Level and Low Level with the aim to deliver cost effective and supportable systems.  As part of this process addressing any technical shortcomings that could impact services through engagement with technical and business areas.
  • Undertake requirements gathering activities to support medium to large technical initiatives and or highly complex technical change.
  • Solution and Technical Ownership, providing review and assurance where required
  • Creating and presenting High Level Solution Proposals to senior stakeholders
  • Attend technical governance meetings on behalf of IT Service Creation to ensure advice/guidance is available and ensure best practice is being followed where this is required
  • Maintaining effective working relationships within the technical and business areas to ensure appropriate advice can be provided and ensuring coherence of technical change
  • Support the Principal Technical Architect and Head of Solution Architecture as required
  • Support Technical Architect colleagues in delivering complete solutions where additional technical or product knowledge is needed
  • Working within IT Service Creation to support the development of junior team members

1 .Knowledge and Experience of DVLA’s Hosting Platforms (cloud and local)

2 .Knowledge of DVLA’s Network Technology

3. Knowledge and Experience of DVLA’s Applications and Technology

4 .Knowledge and Experience of open source products, open frameworks and public cloud tools, technologies and services

5. Knowledge and Experience of working in Agile delivery and product focussed and engineering led teams (desirable)

6. Familiarity with DevOps ways of working
