Minimum Requirement:

  • Clinical background in biomedical science or similar.
  • Extensive programme management experience

The programme team consists of a team composed of Scientific Advisors, Service Delivery Managers and Project Management resources.

  • Provide leadership and direction in an emerging and changing environment.
  • Oversee delivery of the validation process for products, ensuring robust assessment processes are adhered to.
  • Develop and manage processes and protocols that are sufficiently resilient and agile to respond to urgent demands whilst maintaining their integrity and objectivity.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders and others, building strong and collaborative relationships.
  • Set and communicate priorities ensuring current direction is clear to all.
  • Make clear decisions, providing rationale and assessing the impact of those decisions on the project.
  • Develop a programme reporting matrix to enable the monitoring of performance.
  • Provide clear and current reports on progress and issues in a variety of forums as required.
  • Role model our organisational values (PRAISE), embedding these throughout practice.

Key skills required for the role:

  • Significant proven leadership skills: being adept at leading, motivating and coaching teams to achieve successful outcomes preferably gained in previous operational and projects roles.
  • Ability to lead a team as well as key stakeholders, especially when required to adapt quickly and effectively to situations.
  • Experienced and credible in dealing with a broad and complex range of stakeholders, demonstrating confidence to engage with senior officials and ministers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to: engage and build strong relationships quickly and effectively; translate complex issues into easy to understand language; deliver presentations to very senior stakeholders effectively.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to engage and be experienced in operating with a high degree of autonomy where ambiguity exists.
  • Familiar with delivering either complex or high-risk projects within an agreed time yet also with cost and quality constraints.
  • Practical experience in actively leading and managing project risks/issues; must be able to apply the necessary skills with a sound understanding of how they relate to wider strategy.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and technicalities.
  • Experience of leading projects/workstreams with limited resources, adapting a leadership style to ensure the project timeline is met in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Clinical background in biomedical science or similar.
